In which case it's no fiction at all. The only case in which form doesn't
follow function is when the function is the form.

When the revolutionary work on function is essentially complete,
and competing `products' converge, `designers' are used to secure
compeditive advantage on secondary characteristics. This is usually
always trivial, but when two runners are equally fast, the one with
waxed legs wins. Yet one should not use this information to suggest
the wax is as important as the legs themselves.
