[Nettime-ro] Dan Perjovschi - wall drawings. Solo exhibition at Van Abbemuseum (18 February - 30 April 2006)

Press release

Dan Perjovschi - wall drawings

Solo exhibition, 18 February - 30 April 2006

On 18 February 2006 the Van Abbemuseum opens 3 solo
exhibitions of young, international artists. The
Rumanian Dan Perjovschi, the Polish Wilhelm Sasnal and
the Israeli Yael Bartana will present their work in
the Oudbouw. Perjovschi is getting well known in the
Netherlands also due to his nomination for The Vincent
2006, of which the winner will be announced in
September 2006 and about which the Stedelijk Museum in
Amsterdam will organize an exhibition.

With probably the simplest and most economical of
current art practices, Dan Perjovschi's work manages
to comment on the widest possible terrain of
political, economic and artistic subjects.

Living in Bucharest, Perjovschi's (1961, Rumania) view
of the world is both particular to that place and
riddled with all the contradictions, wisdom and
absurdity that global information systems offer.

The exhibition in the Van Abbemuseum consists of wall
drawings. His work is humorous, sharp and sometimes
cutting in its exposure of human behaviour and
frigility. In simple terms, he draws pictures and
texts on walls. He makes these drawings spontaneously
in the spaces where he works, allowing the flow of
events to effect the final result. The architectural
spaces that he inhabits determine certain outcomes of
his installations; the sights and sounds that he
experiences at the time influence some of the subjects
in his drawings, while current affairs and local
gossip shape others. Together they form a visual diary
as much as a microcosm of what is going on in and
around the city and the world at this moment.

Installation and presentation costs have been
supported by a grant of Romanian Cultural Institute,
Bucharest.
