[Nettime-ro] Morex Optimo at Location One 6/13

Location One is pleased to present an evening of live music by:

MOREX OPTIMO
Friday, June 13, 2003 8PM
Admission: $5, Members Free
Streamed Live: www.location1.org

MOREX OPTIMO are a Brooklyn-based art rock band who combine intricate
melodies, angular, often dissonant chords and tight vocal harmonies to
create quirky but well-crafted compositions. Called "one of the coolest
bands you've never heard," Morex Optimo "not only cut their own path, it's
possible that they may smoke the trimmings they leave behind" (Billy
Donald, Music Dish Magazine). Influences and comparisons might include
Kurt Weill, Spike Jones, Yo La Tengo, Television, The Beach Boys, and Tom
Waits.

Morex Optimo wish it were true that the name came from an obscure artwork
by Duchamp, a failed 19th century gynecological instrument, hypnosis
device, or even a brand of high-end cigar; alas it is not, though it is
recommended that these concepts are held in one's mind when listening to
the music. The closest approximation might be a malformed Latin phrase for
"highest morals". Other suggestions are encouraged.

KRISTOFER WIDHOLM (vocals, guitar), the son of missionaries to Sweden,
began writing songs at age seven, while walking his dog. He has performed
in Europe and Canada, and played in several bands in the Chicago area in
the early nineties.
YURI WEBER (bass, vocals) once disseminated his guitar stylings throughout
the San Francisco cacophonist-absurdist music scene in bands like The
Billy Nayer Show, Rhubarb, UPC, and Starfish.
HEATHER WAGNER (drums, vocals) is a practicing 'pataphysician. She is the
former drummer of American Pistil and sometime drummer with Suran Song in
Stag.
