Re: <nettime> Carry On (was: Paul Krugman etc) |
"Over 220 million American people armed to the teeth and ready to explode" would be about 2/3 of the population. That would mean that every citizen 15-64 years old is armed to the teeth and ready to explode -- which seems a bit daft. Let's be conservative and assume that only 50% of Americans aged 15-64 are armed to the teeth and ready to explode, so we'd need to make up the difference from the x<15 or x>65 YO contingents. I'm seeing a sort of Khmer Rouge-like reign of terror waged by a popular front made up of heavily armed 7YOs and, I guess, the newly radicalized Grey Panthers -- who of course have a lot in common with youngsters, as we can see from the current healthcare debate, which boils down to old people stealing medicine from babies. You might want to consult Herr Doktor Google to find out a bit about Cato and the Washington Times. A quick perusal of the "Renew America" site puts them squarely in the paleo-conservative racial apocalypse fantasy camp: Palin op-ed bashing Copenhagen summit has critics steaming Marxists, socialists launched Obama? Obama's risky-sex czar Sean Hannity: 'Where's the birth certificate?' Defenseless enviro-thugs go on offense Yes, the red menace is still a threat -- or where is Joe McCarthy when we need him? Good times.
