- --For what it's worth, I think option 1 is a good idea. I read the
announcements, I like seeing what is going on, it keeps me in touch with
other things around the planet, even if they are a bit dated. It's good to
know what is going on, and often there are informative links, ideas,
projects and Calls. I think it's important to allow list members to post
information on what they are up to in these respects. Subscribers should be
able to do this; if we filter this out, nettime becomes a little more like
- -empyre-.

As for nettime-ann, I guess we could ask: is it really worth it?
But if it doesn't take too much effort -- why not?
Could be handy. Let's check it out & see.

I guess nettimers are either on vacation or taking this discussion off the
list, so will keep it short.

Idea seems good and practical for most part but I think digest mode should
be optionaly setup by subscribers, as a lot of the announcments are last
minute calls and should not wait for "digestion".

Additionaly in discussion (off-list) about setting-up netime south east
europe there was an idea to have direct link in added to the
message as part of the footer... but that requiered time sync using same
server for both list and archive (meaning dropping NY Thing server for
amsterdam nettime server)...so maybe another thing to discuss, as this
would make your work a bit more complex.

Just do number (1), forget about number (2).

Separating the (1)s from the (2)s is already gonna be some added work; why
then create a nettime-ann that would require yet another layer of editing?

And how many people really go through all the announcements, much less
follow up on them, anyway?

I'm interested in reading the nettime-specific announcements, ie the ones
that include some statement from whomever is forwarding it that explains why
nettimers should take an interest...myself and a lot of other people manage
to hear about the scattershot announcements from many other sources. I don't
need nettime for that info. But if an item is somehow relevant to the
discussions, then, yes, it should be included.

folks,

as someone who runs a list that carries many announcements, esp. 
relating to european media art, spectre, i greatly appreciate the 
nettime-announcement postings as they are, because these digests give 
a chance to quickly scan what people in the nettime-archipelago are 
doing. i find this 'thread' important for nettime, because it shows 
that there is a continuous flow of real projects - art, politics, 
theory, tech-stuff, etc. - which people are involved in. (many things 
are happening far away and get announced so late that it is 
impossible to go to them anyway; but even then it is interesting to 
know that happens where.)

i can fully understand if the moderators say it is too much work to 
put the ann-digests together, but for me they are useful as they are 
and the work is greatly appreciated.
