give a short gallery talk .

ARTEMISIA'S 7th ANNUAL MENTORSHIP EXHIBITION, ELEVEN
The mentorship program at Artemisia Gallery has brought together eleven
exceptional and diverse emerging women artists for a year long program
designed to assist the artists in the transition from school to professional
studio practice. The culmination of the program is this exhibition
featuring the work of:

Ayana Evans: Sculptural Installation
Linda Fuelling: Installation
Jessica Patricia Keefe: Installation
Robbin O'Harrow: Printmaking
Pamela Paulsrud: Handmade Paper Installation
Karen Phipps: Painting

Nicole C. Russell: Installation
Jamie Lou Thome: Installation
Jessica Wright: Sculpture
Gallery A: BRIAN YATES
Yates' photographic work is informed by his education as a printmaker.
His photographs often have several semitransparent layers and employ distinct
graphic elements. His work is also informed by the 'floating world'
of Japanese Woodcuts, and the photographs often convey the sense of 'floating'
through a world of melancholy, apprehension, and acceptance.
Gallery B: LISA BULAWSKY
St. Louis based installation artist and printmaker Bulawsky is an Assistant
Professor of Printmaking and Drawing at the Washington University School
of Art. She describes herself as a "generalist and a blasphemist,"
working with both the reproducible democratic potential of printmaking
and the individuality of mark-making. Her largest body of work, mixed
media on paper, integrates printed images with collage and painting and
drawing and is autobiographical in nature.
Gallery C: URSULA MCCARTY
Textile Artist McCarty's exhibition features new work including Play
House, a large structure constructed of almost 1000 woven potholders that
serves as a hybrid playhouse and tea cozy. Through humor and
caricature, McCarty's work critiques the historical role of women in and
out of the home. McCarty is a Senior Lecturer in Art specializing
in Feminist Art History at Cornell College in Iowa.
