Artist in Residence Call – Access Space
Theme and context:
How artists and arts organisations are funded is a topic which has been exercising a lot of minds in recent years. Funding streams have been reduced or in some cases cut altogether. This has been happening all over the world.
Many organisations have closed down. Many artists have given up, others have had to drastically reduce the scale of their practice. This needs to stop.
There is a lot of talk about “value”, about what constitutes “value”, about what financial products are made of, about new forms of virtual economic interactions, about high speed transactions which take millionths of seconds, about the world's financial system as a giant casino.
We are asking artists to put forward proposals for a three week residency which engages with these areas. It may be serious, playful, or a combination of the two, but we are asking artists to think about solutions, about actions or about alternatives.
Your proposal may include the use of computer technology, or it may not.
Info:
There are two residencies on offer, one in September 2014 and the other in October.
Please send a proposal of no more than 600 words including any production budget and your preferred time period. You may include up to two illustrations on a second page if needed. Please put your name, address, phone number and email address at the end of the proposal together with the web addresses of online examples of previous work (these words will be allowed as extra). We will accept pdf format documents only.
The deadline is 12 noon British Summer Time on 8th of July 2014.
The successful artists will receive an artist fee of £1500 GBP each, free accommodation, a contribution toward travel and a modest production budget.
We are happy if you bring extra resources with you
Please ensure that you have permission to work in the UK.
