Until Sun, 5th November : Shanghai Bienalle 2006 > A theme that filled with the traits of our era, popularity and culture. It promotes the urban civilization and the fixed theme of "Hyper Design".
Marnix de Nijs’s work Run Motherfucker Run is an interactive installation and presented at the Shanghai Biennale. In this work, any able-bodied person can experience the sensation of moving through absolutely empty streets, intersections and unpredictable obstacles. When you stand on the treadmill in front of an eight-meter by four-meter silver screen, you encounter images pieced together from film and 3-D software. On the conveyor belt, you maintain an equal distance from the virtual city in front of you. You can control the movement of the images by running faster or slower, which is to say that the speed of the conveyor belt and the multiplication of the images are both determined by your speed and running direction. Only in this way is the continuation of the film guaranteed. The film manifests the tense relationship between terrified pursuit and urban panic.
