[this comes late but might still be interesting ...] Thomas Tvegaard, project assistant, writes: ooo===ooo===ooo===ooo===ooo GLOBAL GALLERI Global Galleri a part of Copenhagen 96 Cultural Capital of Europe has grown out of the project named "The Electronic Marketplace". What Is Global Galleri? Global Galleri is a multimedia atelier for production of art projects. Here we are working on the development and exhibition of projects in which art and technology blend in new and unexpected ways. Who Is Global Galleri? Artists, multimedia designers and computer programmers, teachers and students co-operate in the Multimedia Laboratory to develop internet art, interactive installations and produce CD-ROMs. When Will Global Galleri Be Visible? During the autumn of 1996 as part of the programme of Copenhagen 96 Cultural Capital of Europe, Global Galleri will be exhibiting under the theme "The Future". Global Galleri will be exhibiting locally in Copenhagen and globally on the World Wide Web from the spring 1996. GLOBAL GALLERI Huset Raadhusstraede 13, 2nd floor DK-1466 Copenhagen K Denmark tel.: 33 12 09 11 fax: 33 12 04 42 e-mail: global96@cph96.dk ---------- GLOBAL GALLERI Purpose Global Galleri is to be the framework around exhibition of and publication of various expressions of electronic and interactive art. Our society is rapidly changing partly due to the fact that the electronic reality is transforming many aspects of our daily life. Part of this change is explored by creative artists experimenting with the contents and expression of information technology. The new possibilities brought about by the rapid improvement of computer programmes and the acceptance of international standards now allow a variety of new expressions which restlessly drift around on disks, on the Internet, and maybe even on CD-ROMs. Ideas for the new communication, the new art, the new games and the new entertainment. The mass media have through newspapers, magazines and conferences often displayed these new expressions as examples of the unique possibilities brought about by this change. It is the purpose of Global Galleri to organize some of the most interesting contents which -- both in the scope and direction -- are an artistic proposal of future interactive communication. Multimedia Laboratory Global Galleri has established a workshop -- the Multimedia Laboratory -- to develop a creative environment for the production of new expressions. The Multimedia Laboratory is a training workshop, staffed by professional multimedia designers and young people in training, developing a number of new interactive projects. Working together with the artists chosen by the Cultural Capital 96 -- media developers, designers, graphic artists and computer programmers -- they will develop artistic ideas in the Multimedia Laboratory. The Multimedia Laboratory has two main functions: * to develop electronic interactivity from a cultural and artistic perspective. * to give young people a chance to be in contact with developing methods and techniques involving the implementation of new technologies. This is realized through the integration of courses of three to six months in the development and production that is part of the Multimedia Laboratory. Presentation and Exhibition Global Galleri is working on the development of user interfaces which -- as an alternative to the commercial one-way mass communication -- will be interactive. Allowing choice to be the user's prerogative. During the spring of 1996, Global Galleri will present artists on the World Wide Web of the Internet. In the large exhibition rooms of "Nikolaj" -- a former church in the centre of Copenhagen -- all of the projects will be presented and exhibited throughout September. The projects of Global Galleri will also be published on CD-ROM. Project structure Global Galleri is an external project in the programme of Copenhagen 96 Cultural Capital of Europe. The project is directed by Damián Arguimbau, programme director for Interactive Media. Michael Holmstrom, architect, is in charge of project coordination. Barbara Adler, visual artist, coordinates the Multimedia Laboratory. Cooperation and Support Global Galleri is established in cooperation with several partners who contribute with various elements of organization, production, training and technical equipment: * Mediecentret is a production centre in charge of setting up and running the Multimedia Laboratory workshop.
