Preservation Matching Grants 
*H.R. 425 provides matching grants to states to preserve federally 
assisted affordable housing.

Predatory Lending 
*HR 1051 amends the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act 
of 1994 and other sections of the Truth in Lending Act to protect 
consumers against predatory practices in connection with high cost 
mortgage transactions, and to strengthen the civil remedies 
available to consumers under existing law.  

*HR 1221 expands the Officer Next Door and Teacher Next Door 
initiatives of the Department of Housing and Urban Development to 
include fire fighters and rescue personnel.

*HR 2033 promotes homeownership opportunities for low-income 
individuals. The bill has been referred to the House Ways and 
Means Committee with 14 co-sponsors. 

CDBG 
*H.R. 1191 requires more targeting of CDBG funds to low income 
people and neighborhoods.

Low Income Housing Tax Credit 
*S. 677 allows Low Income Housing Tax Credit buildings to serve 
higher income people based on the higher of the statewide median 
income or the area median income. This bill is identical to H.R. 951. 
The Senate bill has been referred to the Committee on Finance; the 
House bill has been referred to House Committee on Ways and 
Means. 

Federal Housing Enterprises Oversight 
*H.R. 1409 proposes comprehensive overhaul of Fannie Mae and 
Freddie Mac with transfer of oversight of the organizations to the 
Federal Reserve Board from the Office of Federal Housing 
Enterprise Oversight.  Referred to the Subcommittee on Capital 
Markets, Insurance and Government-Sponsored Enterprises of the 
House Financial Services Committee.  The Subcommittee held a 
hearing on the bill on May 23, 2001.  No support was expressed for 
the legislation. 

Small Public Housing Authority Act 
*HR 1960 exempts small public housing authorities from the 
requirement to produce an annual public housing agency plan.  The 
exemption would apply to public housing authorities that administer 
less than 100 units and are not designated as a troubled housing 
authority.  The bill was referred to the House Financial Services 
Committee. 

*H.R. 593 provides that the earned income credit shall include a 
specified portion of benefits received under Temporary Assistance 
for Needy Families (TANF).  Referred to House Committee on 
Ways and Means. 

*H.R. 922, amends the Internal Revenue Code to reduce to 21 
years old the minimum age for a person without children to qualify 
for the earned income credit.  Referred to the House Committee on 
ways and Means. 

*HR 1652 seeks to reduce the amount of the Earned Income Tax 
Credit by removing from eligibility low income individuals without 
children.  Percentages for determining benefit percentages are 
amended to include a reduction in credit percentages and an 
increase in the phaseout percentage.  The bill has been referred to 
the House Ways and Means Committee with no co-sponsors.
