KYIV INTERNATIONAL MEDIA ART FESTIVAL 2000 October 4 - October 28, 2000, Kyiv, Ukraine Partners: Goethe Institut-Kiew; KulturKontakt, Vienna, Austria; Austrian Embassy in Ukraine; Pro Helvetia, Switzerland; International Renaissance Foundation, Kyiv; British Council, Ukraine; Institut Francais d'Ukraine; Institution of Unstable Thoughts, Kyiv Curators: Natalia Manzhali, Katya Stukalova, Mike Stubbs (consultant) Info Media Bank Program of the Center for Contemporary Art and Goethe Institut-Kiew have initiated the organization since the year 2000 annual international festival of media art in Ukraine. The festival will be held in October 2000 and will present wide range of artistic projects, based on the use of new media and technologies (computer animation works, interactive, video and sound installations, DJ and VJ programs, etc.) The Festival is aimed to introduce the broad range of the international media art, to give an idea about the state of development of culture and technologies in different countries, and to put Ukrainian art in a diverse international context. MEDIA ART EXHIBITION "ALTER NATURA" (OCTOBER 13 - OCTOBER 25, 2000, GALLERY OF THE CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ART) What is the nature for the new media art? What are the media to express the nature and the way contemporary artists perceive it? Is there something natural in media themselves? Exhibition includes works by prominent international artists: Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau (Austria - France - Japan), Gina Czarnecki (UK), Christian Ziegler (Germany), Pierrick Sorin (France), Kristof Kintera (Czech Republic), Arturas Raila (Lithuania), Olexander Hnilitsky, Illya Chichkan, Kirill Protsenko, Illya Isupov, Gleb Katchuk, Olya Kashimbekova, Ivan Tsupka, Natalia Golibroda (Ukraine). MEDIA SCREENINGS Directors of the media art festivals and institutions, independent curators and art critics will present to the wide public selected programs of video art, computer animation and art films. List includes Prix Ars Electronica, O snabrueck European Media Art Festival, [d]vision 2000 Festival, Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art, Hull Time Based Art, Dreamcatcher Festival, Moscow Media Lab, etc. MEDIA WORKSHOP Christian Ziegler, media artist at the Zentrum fur Kunst Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe, Germany will instruct young Ukrainian artists how to create interactive computer works. DJ/VJ LOUNGE German, Estonian and Ukrainian DJs and VJs will communicate to the public their ideas on: turntable-techniques and club-routines, beats per minute, sampling, sequencing and (digital) sound-production & (re-)mixing, authors-rights and bootlegging, and many more.
