Afrique virtuelle â?? "I have a drum", Philippe Monvaillier http://www.olats.org/africa/afriqueContinents/have_a_drum.shtml "I Have a Drum", installation interactive, a été imaginée par Philippe Monvaillier. Ce spectacle qui mélange sons d'instruments à percussion, dessins, photographies, a été réalisé en Afrique du Sud, à Soweto, en collaboration avec des musiciens locaux et des enfants du quartier. Grâce à un système d'interactivité, les passants peuvent également prendre place dans l'orchestre. (Texte en anglais et en français) 3 - Afrique virtuelle â?? "The Natural Order of Things", Colette Gaiter http://www.olats.org/africa/afriqueContinents/natural_order.shtml "The Natural Order of Things" de Colette Gaiter est une "méditation personnelle sur l'Afrique du Sud et sur la société et culture américaines. Elle fut inspirée par un séjour de deux semaines en Afrique du Sud, en août 1999". Colette Gaiter, artiste afro-américaine, explore les différences sociales et culturelles qui séparent des personnes qui, comme elle, ont assimilé les valeurs culturelles du monde occidental, des hommes et femmes qui vivent en Afrique et demeurent liés à leur culture ancestrale. 4 â?? Afrique virtuelle - Les dernières peintures de Luis Meque par Chiedza Musengezi http://www.olats.org/africa/galerie/gal-meque.shtml Chiedza Musengezi dresse un compte rendu de l'exposition des oeuvres de Luis Meque qui fut organisée en 1998 pour commémorer la vie et la carrière d'un peintre qui contribua activement à la vie artistique du Zimbabwe. Ses dernières peintures,caractérisées par une prédominance de couleurs sombres et un style expressionniste, trouvent leur inspiration dans les scènes urbaines, et dans des portraits de personnages marginaux et mis au ban de la société. Elles révèlent aussi le combat quotidien de Luis Meque contre la maladie et la mort. 5 â?? Makepeace Tsao De Roger Malina : J'ai le regret de vous informer que l'ami de longue date, et membre honoraire, de Leonardo, le Dr. Makepeace Tsao vient de décéder. Makepeace était un biochimiste et un peintre. Il a aidé au transfert de Leonardo à San Francisco en 1982, à un moment particulièrment difficile pour la revue, où notre avenir était incertain. Depuis, il a collaboré de manière active au Comité Editorial. En 1995, il a généreusement fait une donation financière à Leonardo/ISAST pour le Leonardo Tsao Prize, qui fut alors attribué à Hervé Fischer et Ginette Major, les organisateurs d'Images du Futur au Canada. Virtual Africa â?? "Ihave a drum", Philippe Monvaillier http://www.olats.org/africa/afriqueContinents/have_a_drum.shtml "I Have a Drum", an interactive installation, was imagined by Philippe Monvaillier. This show intermingling sounds of percussion instruments with images,drawings and photographs, was realised in Soweto - South Africa- in collaboration with South African musicians and children. "The Natural Order of Things", Colette Gaiter http://www.olats.org/africa/afriqueContinents/natural_order.shtml The " Natural Order of Things " by Colette Gaiter is a " personal meditation on South African and U.S. society and culture after spending two weeks in South Africa in August of 1999. ". Colette Gaiter, an African American artist, explores the social and cultural differences that separate people who like her have assimilated the values from the Western world, and people from Africa who are still connected to their ancestral culture. Virtual Africa - The Last Paintings of Luis Meque by Chiedza Musengezi http://www.olats.org/africa/galerie/gal-meque.shtml Chiedza Musengezi reviews an exhibition of works by Luis Meque organized in 1998 to commemorate the life and art work of a painter who actively contributed to Zimbabwean artistc life. His last paintings, characterized by predominantly dark colours and an expressionist style, find their inspiration in urban scenes, in portraits of marginal people and misfits. They also reveal Luis Meque's daily struggle with illness and death. (Text in English) 5 â?? Makepeace Tsao >From Roger Malina : I regret to inform you that long time Leonardo friend and Honorary Editor Dr. Makepeace Tsao passed away last weekend. Makepeace was a biochemist and painter. He helped move Leonardo to San Francisco in 1982 at a time when our future was in doubt and worked actively on the Editorial Board since then. In 1995 he generously donated funds to Leonardo/ISAST for the Leonardo Tsao Prize, which was awarded to Herve Fischer and Ginette Major, the organisers of Images du Future in Canada. We will miss Makepeace.
