from: http://www.isea.qc.ca/symposium/2000frame.html ISEA2000 - REVELATION ISEA2000, International Symposium on Electronic Art, is the most important event dedicated to art and new media ever organized in France (6 to 11 december 2000). In Fall 2000, over 100 artistic works from thirty different countries will be exhibited throughout the city of Paris via simultaneous events in different locations : Forum des Images, IRCAM, Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Musée Carnavalet, Univeristé Paris 8, cole Nationale de Création Industrielle, Cinéma MK2... ISEA2000 Revelation will showcase ten years of ISEA presence. This international electronic art event is organized annually and is hosted by a different country (United States, Canada, UK, Australia, The Netherlands, etc) each time. ISEA2000 will be the first ISEA event to take place in France. Under the theme of Revelation, ISEA2000 will explore the effects of the technological revolution on art and society through new ways of representation. Digital images, virtual, multimedia, interactive installations, networks... new information and communication technologies turn practices of conception and exhibition upside down. They are instruments through which new forms of interactive writing occur and they reveal an emerging culture on a planetary scale. ISEA2000 Revelation will put in perspective the transformations and the stakes of different creative disciplines : applied arts, performance, music, image, architecture, design, and fashion. It will focus on understanding the ways through which new tools generate forms of expression inherent to the digital civilization. With thirty participating countries, ISEA2000 Revelation is a pioneering interdisciplinary and multicultural event, moving towards creation in the third millenium. In particular, it will examine initiatives carried out in Latin America,Asia, Africa, like the Virtual Africa project. ISEA2000 REVELATION achieves its diversity objectives and maintains its audience-oriented dynamic through an association with other events organized by art centers, research centers, associations or collectivities in France. These programs include the "Image Culture and Interactive Media Project" initiated by Le Fresnoy ; Universities and Art Schools educational works relating specifically to the ISEA2000 themes ; public awareness initiatives by players in the fields of Culture and Multimedia and by Cybercafes on the cultural uses of new media. The latter will also foster meetings and debates around the increasing democratic value of new tools and uses for information and communication (debates, philosophical coffee, projects presentations, etc) ISEA2000 Revelation will maintain an interactive TV channel on the web during the year 2000, in order to broadcast events, programing, meetings and exhibitions organised as part of ISEA. This cyberculture channel will be a meeting point for the Internet community to seek information and participate in ongoing discussions. In December 2000, ISEA2000 Revelation will come culminate in a large scale international symposium to be held at the Image Forum in Paris. This one week symposium will gather more than 1000 key players from some thirty countries in the domaines of art, education, research, and industry. Conferences, round-tables and presentations of works will illustrate the current state of art and culture in the realm of electronic media. ISEA2000 REVELATION is organized by ART3000, with tthe support and collaboration of the Ministère de la Culture, the Mission pour les célébrations de l'An 2000, the Mission Paris 2000 and the city of Paris, as well as the collaboration of many public and private partners.
