[oldboys] flowers // oldboys commitment and the question of whois |
dear helene, connie & all, after having revealed the simple mind behind the mysterious miss.gunst id 8-) let my add my personal view to the venice flower case. to a certain extent I would perfectly agree with your standpoint, helene: according to the basic agreements of obn > whenever at least 3 members of OBN sign responsible they /can/ > label their activity (whatever that might be) an > old-boys-network-event AND whenever three plus n (3+n) decide to do so, they should show their committment to obn basic agreements also by commiting themselves to their action (whatever form & result this action may show & tell) BUT: personally, I would prefer to see this commitment limited first of all to the network itself, that is: the list. [which was not the case in this case, at least not immediatly, so here/up to this point I can accept your critique, Helene] -- as I think in some cases acting in the name of obn should imply or at least allow the interpretation the action has its origins _in a network_ (that obviously consists of individuals with individual standpoints, as it is _not_ a group). maybe we should discuss this and decide together about how to deal with this in future? a) should _any_ action in the name of/labeled by obn be "signed" by the individual names/ids of all the old boys involved, so _everybody_ can relate these very names/id.s to the action/event OR b) should this rather be something the old boys involved communicate to the network itself, while being free to chose if they prefer the public to be informed about the 'authorship' in full detail or not AND c) in case the latter possibility is taken in account, should this considered as a 'very special case' anyway discussed ón the list in advance. actually, I think I would like to stay open for b) - combined with c) or not. maybe I would even like the idea of creating a collective id (i.e.: action@obn.org) that could be used for special purposes... - that is, for collective actions (carried out by a 3+n group of old boys, and in this case maybe indeed necessarily discussed or at least communicated on the list _in advance_?!) that may afford a certain grade/stage of anonymity (of cause not being anonymous at all, as clearly bearing the obn label) to enhance their impact. maybe this latter idea leads to far to be already discussed at this point - however, I hope we can discuss the former question, that is: how to deal with the relation between labeling an action in public and showing one's personal commitment (always in public / sometimes in public / sometimes to the list only and so on...) right now, as I consider this question as a very important one. well, and to add my personal statement to the venice case: I definitely do share connie's standpoint already explained by herself in detail (that is, her interpretation of the whole event as well as her interpretation of the background/context that was the framework of this action), and I even like the idea the combination of message & sender (miss.gunst) may have led to mis(s)interpretations... best, kuniboy --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: oldboys-unsubscribe@lists.ccc.de For additional commands, e-mail: oldboys-help@lists.ccc.de
