FORD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
AT SCHUMACHER COLLEGE
The Ford Foundation has made a grant to Schumacher College in order to
enable individuals from the South and from Eastern Europe to attend
three-week courses at Schumacher College. The College is a residential
international centre for ecological studies which runs courses focusing
on
development studies/alternative economics, understandings emerging from
new
science, ecological design and ways of introducing ecology into our
understanding of the world.
Successful applicants will
* be grassroots activists, community leaders,
or NGO workers who are
operating on the frontline of development work
* have leadership potential and the capacity to benefit from learning in
this unique international residential setting
* be able to present the perspective of people in the 'developing' world
in
course conversations
* be able to demonstrate that they can be a catalyst for change in their
own
communities on their return.
The scholarship award includes the full
cost of the course fee (which
includes food, lodging, tuition and field trips) and up to US $750 to cover
economy travel expenses. These scholarships are available for three-week
courses during the period up to July 2004.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR US CITIZENS
TO STUDY AT SCHUMACHER COLLEGE
A generous grant from the Educational Foundation of America has made it
possible for Schumacher College to offer scholarships of 80% of course fees
to suitable applicants from the US.
Schumacher College is an international centre
for ecological studies based
on a country estate in Devon, UK. Since 1991, it has run residential
courses (usually three weeks long) with leading environmental thinkers and
activists such as Fritjof Capra, Vandana Shiva, David Orr, Frances Moore
Lappe, Amory Lovins, Hazel Henderson, Terry Tempest Williams and Thomas
Moore. The College provides a unique holistic education whereby
intellectual enquiry is combined with meditation, physical work, and time
spent outdoors. Course participants come from all over the world (over
70
countries to date), are aged between 20 and 80, and have a wide variety
of
backgrounds and interests. This provides an invaluable opportunity to
discuss vital issues with others from very different cultures and
perspectives.
Applicants for EFA scholarships should have
leadership potential and be in a
key position to bring about change. They should be, for example, educators,
journalists, public officials, social and/or environmental activists or
in
green business, and show how they will disseminate what they learn within
their own communities. These scholarships are intended for people who would
be unable to take a course without financial assistance.
