Cultural activism today: strategies of over-identification
Symposium organised by BAVO with
BAVO, Alexei Monroe, Dieter Lesage, Aernout Mik, Jens Haaning, Boris Groys, Joep van Lieshout
— Thursday 19 January 13:00 – 18:00
— Stedelijk Museum CS on 11
http://www.janvaneyck.nl/~culturalactivism

__________
Introduction
This symposium tackles the new wave of cultural activism that has occurred through anti-populist or anti-globalist struggles. Most activisms today are either too cultural (and therefore become politically harmless) or, inversely, too political (and do not stand out against the bulk of socio-political actions).

This symposium believes in the possibility of a form of activism that is both radically political and cultural. It moreover claims that the key to such a cultural activism lies in the strategy of over-identification. These claims wil be assessed through readings of activist works by Christoph Schlingensief, Michael Moore, Neue Slowenische Kunst and Santiago Sierra.
