STEIM presenteert zondag 21 november om 20.30 uur een concert met 
Gameboyzz Orchestra en Florentintin.

Gameboyzz Orchestra
De Gameboyzz Orchestra is een experimenteel geluids- en beeldproject, 
waarbij uitsluitend de GameBoy gebruikt wordt om muziek te maken.
In feite is de GameBoy een kleine synthesizer met een rauw en ‘retro’ 
geluid. Door er de juiste software aan te verbinden, vaak 
zelfgeschreven, kan er een drummachine of groovebox van gemaakt worden.
Aangezien het een heel simpele interface betreft, blijven de muzikale 
structuren ook elementair. Om toch een bepaalde mate van complexiteit 
te bereiken, bestaat het Poolse gezelschap Gameboyzz Orchestra dan ook 
uit zes personen.
Het Gameboyzz Orchestra gebruikt samples van archieven en popliedjes. 
Met hun volstrekt bewegingsloze uitvoering ervan geven ze commentaar op 
de performancepraktijk van de elektronische avant-garde.
Voorts is het Gameboyzz Orchestra geïnspireerd door het geluid van de 
8-bit interface. En een kleine voorliefde voor ironie kan hen ook niet 
ontzegd worden.

Florentintin
Florentintin remixt jazz op de laptop en noemt dat lapbop. Jazz is 
geïmproviseerde muziek  waarin muzikanten hun persoonlijke versie maken 
van bekende muziek.
Vroeger waren dat musicalliedjes en muziek met standaard 
akkoordenschema’s zoals bijvoorbeeld de blues.
Door de opkomst van de plaat en de (pop)muziekindustrie is de laatste 
50 jaar voor het publiek de opname van de muziek belangrijker geworden 
dan de bladmuziek.
Waar jazzmuzikanten uit de jaren vijftig partituren van liedjes 
remixten, maakt Florentintin sinds de jaren negentig remixes van 
opnames van liedjes.
Florentintin is het pseudoniem van componist/sonoloog Florentijn 
Boddendijk. Boddendijk heeft vanaf 1995 een aantal projecten op STEIM 
gerealiseerd met onder andere
Edwin van der Heijden, Joost Rekveld en Anne Wellmer en heeft zich 
gericht op het maken van Elektronisch Muziektheater en speelt op het 
ogenblik
met het "Gezelschap van de Nacht" de show "To the Max" in 
popzalen/festivals en werkt aan zijn muziektheatervoorstelling "Everest 
96" die voorjaar 2005 in de studio van de Rotterdamse Schouwburg in 
première gaat.

Gameboyzz Orchestra
The Gameboyzz Orchestra Project is an experimental sound and visual 
project, based on the use of GameBoy console as a music instrument.
 From a musician's point of view the GameBoy device is a kind of simple 
analogue synthesizer, with a raw and at the same time interesting 
retro-sound.
While connected with suitable software, often self-written, it can be 
used as drum machine or groovebox.
The console's interface is rather poor (just a few buttons), so the 
sound structures created by the Gameboyzz are rather simple, too. In 
order to have a certain amount
of complexity in the music, the Polish Gameboyzz Orchestra exists of 
six people.
The Gameboyzz Ochestra uses elements from archives and current pop 
culture, which in relation to their motionless choreography of their 
concerts, creates a kind of anti-performance
commenting on the performance practice of avant-garde electronic music. 
The Game Boyzz Orchestra are also inspired by the aesthetics of 8 bit 
computers and old school games.
And a sense of irony is never far away in their music.

Florentintin
Florentintin remixes jazz on the laptop and calls it lapbop. Jazz is 
improvised music in which musicians give their opinion on wel known 
music. In the past the musicians mainly
based their material on musical songs and music with standard chord 
changes such as the blues. However, due to the rise of the record and 
the (pop)music industry, the recording has become
more important than the sheet music in the past 50 years. Where jazz 
musicians in the 50ies remixes songs, Florentintin remixes recordings 
since the 90ies.
Florentintin is the pseudonym of composer/sonologist Florentijn 
Boddendijk. Since 1995 Boddendijk has realised a number of projects at 
STEIM and focusses on electronic music-theatre these days.
With "the Gezelschap van de Nacht" he is performing the show ‘To the 
Max’. The music-theatre work ‘Everest 96’ will be premiered in the 
Rotterdamse Schouwburg in the spring of 2005.
