Electronic Art Festival will be officially opened at the Van Nelle
Ontwerpfabriek. After the opening speech by V2_ director Alex Adriaansens
and brief presentations of the festival program, the unique act ECHOHCE
with Jamie Lidell and FM Einheit (amongst others) will be performed.

interactions between man and machine. Jamie Lidell sings lyrics written
only a few seconds before by David Link's Poetry Machine, a computer which
generates a stream of word associations.

Seminars on Art and Technology on 10 and 11 November

How do we experience mixed virtual and physical environments? Is wearable
computing empowering us, or are we becoming more vulnerable and
disembodied? How can machines be designed to express emotion by
themselves? On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 November, various seminars are
focusing on thought-provoking issues in art and media technology. The
seminar Wearable Turbulence focuses on context-aware, human-centred
computing; The Art of Immersive Spaces questions the role of
human-computer interaction principles in the design of immersive spaces.
The seminar Affective Systems presents research in the area of emotional
computing. The conference Open Alliances will focus on transfer of
knowledge in art, media technology and education, with speakers from art
academies, universities, business and research centres in art and
technology.

Open Alliances: Wednesday 10 November, 10:00-14:30 hrs
Wearable Turbulence: Wednesday 10 November, 15:00-18:00 hrs
The Art of Immersive Spaces: Thursday 11 November, 10:00-12:30 hrs

DEAF04 Symposium: Feelings Are Always Local

On Friday 12 and Saturday 13 November, DEAF04 presents the
interdisciplinary symposium Feelings Are Always Local. Central question of
the symposium is: How do local systems arise and maintain themselves in
large, globalizing networks? Speakers are biologist Tijs Goldschmidt,
economist Loretta Napoleoni, artist and computer programmer Alex Galloway
(US), neurologist Karim Nader, artist Christa Sommerer, anthropologist
Christopher Kelty, and media theorist Arjen Mulder. The symposium is
moderated by Manuel DeLanda.

Due to the cancellations of the lectures by Arjun Appadurai and Mike
Davis, the program of the DEAF04 symposium Feelings Are Always Local
(Friday 12 & Saturday 13 November) has changed. Instead, the Dutch
biologist and media theorist Arjen Mulder will deliver a lecture on
systems, networks, interaction and communication and their importance for
the arts.

For all information concerning the program see http://www.deaf04.nl/symposium
To be sure of a ticket please make reservations via tickets@v2.nl or tel.
