LA BIENNALE DE MONTRÉAL 2000 - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
*********************************************************

La Biennale de Montréal 2000 will present ten works created for the Web

and centering on the theme of L'autre monde / Out of this World.

The exhibition will gather Web projects that establish an analogy
between cyberspace and that unknown, unfathomable space, the
other-world of spirits, of the dead, paradise or hell, however
designated by particular culture or belief.

We invite artists whose Web works relate to this theme to submit their
url and any other information regarding their Web project (s).

Only artworks specially conceived for the Web will be taken into
account.

Recent works are desired but "older" works will also be considered.

La Biennale de Montréal 2000 will take place from 28 September to 29
October 2000.

La Biennale is produced by Centre international d'art contemporain de
Montréal.

The Emotion Project:
According to a twentieth century psychologist, Robert Plutchik,
there are eight basic human emotions.
This piece categorizes web pages in terms of these emotions,
you submit the sites for analysis.

by Carolyn Gerstman

*****************************************************************

PINION(verb) :
to restrain a bird from flight by cutting off the tip of bird's wing.

Just like a bird is pinioned and imprisoned in a cage,
a web page is pinioned and uploaded to a server as if it is confined.

You can pinion a web page and add it to the collection.

Hi nettimers

As most of you know, I am currently editing a theme issue of the cultural
studies journal PARALLAX entitled 'ECONOMIES OF EXCESS'.

The issue is broadly based around a contemporary reading of Bataille's
notion of the general economy but will also incorporate Virilio's political
economy of speed, Baudrillard's transeconomics, and Lyotard's libidinal
economics.

However, I am also looking out for anyone or a group of people who might
like to consider some kind of 'economic' and/or 'excessive' ***artistic***
input/intervention in, across, or throughout the issue (text, photo-essay,
text/images etc.).

If this sounds like you and you feel like discussing your ideas then please
get in contact. As is usual in the feudal world of academia, publication is
its own reward - it says here...

best wishes

ARCHÉE -> CYBERART - CYBERCULTURE - THÉORIE
http://archee.qc.ca/sommaire.htm

Cette livraison de la revue Archée contient une bonne dose d’idées
théoriques, médiatiques, intermédiatiques et philosophiques.

~~~ Une suggestion de lecture avant d’entamer l’an 2000 ~~~
L’UNESCO présente des textes inédits d’auteurs et de scientifiques qui
répondent à la question : «Qu’avez-vous à dire à ceux qui vivront en 2050?».
Parmi ces derniers, nous vous invitons à lire la lettre d’Ilya Prigogine
(Prix Nobel de chimie, Belgique).
