<nettime> period after |
dear friends, we are currently in the preparation of the launch of the Period After website. a brief proposal can be found below in english, serbian and german. consider this as a private invite, not a public mailout. i would like to ask you, or invite you to contribute three to ten lines for the opening of Period After. especially the understanding of 'after' in the context of contemporary politics might provide an extensive ground for thought. it would be great to receive some statements we could use for the 'period after' column on the Period After site. if you could think of other ways to contribute, we would be very happy to host your thoughts and work. i do apologise for the 'bureaucratic' language used in the texts below, but when dealing with issues of integration we decided to go down the welcoming lane. looking forward to hear from you, micz flor ####################################### PERIOD AFTER - support now for the period after Period After is a web based project, focussing on the urgency, the development and the long term effects of the Balkan crisis, with a main interest in the potential and real consequences. It will primarily support and collaborate with independent voices and organisations in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia who are momentarily under severe pressure caused by war activities, rumours, political and media propaganda, shortages, disintegration of the social and material environment and the humanitarian catastrophe. Issues of multi-ethnic collaboration and integration are of the main concern of Period After. The project will work as an information base, an opinion forum and a meeting point. Period After will provide moral support, for the sake of the courage of those independent voices and intends to work for a continuation of a free flow of independent uncensored information and communication on all sides, about key political developments and issues of security and economic development in the context of the democratisation process in any possible 'period after'. It will identify and mediate social, economic and political conditions after the war which can cause new dislocations. Period After applies mostly to the territory of Austria where we would raise public awareness about the situation faced by refugees among the Austrian citizens, Serb and Albanian non-refugee communities. This will mean to work for a reduced likelihood of social tension and increase dialogue. Through public access, freedom of expression and professional information accessible through new information technology, the Internet, we can help people in Austria as well as in Yugoslavia to understand the processes and establish modes of orientation in this movement of culture and political actions on the Balkan and across Europe. The long term aim is to develop an informed network with individual opinions, towards the development of an integrated and tolerant, peaceful Europe. The website will be in English, German and Serbian in the initial phase. Albanian translations are currently being seeked. Pokusace da pruzi moralnu podrsku i ohrabri nezavisne glasove, neometan i slobodan protok necenzurisanih informacija i komunikacije svih strana u sukobu, posvecujuci posebnu paznju temama vezanim za politicke procese, pitanja bezbednosti i ekonomskog razvoja u kontekstu pomoci procesu demokratizacije u "periodu posle".
