JOIN THE PUBLIC FORUM ON THE DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM AT COOPER UNION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE AND ART On the Net and Live, September 23, 1997 Will the Public have a say in the future governance of the Internet? If so, you must ACT NOW because time is running out! The contract between Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI a/k/a InterNIC) ends on September 30, 1998 and the transition of the management of the Domain Name System and IP Numbers to a private, non-profit corporation will occur as proposed by the US Department of Commerce in their "White Paper". (http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/domainname/6_5_98dns.htm) Don't allow the "quid pro quo" between IANA and NSI to go forward at the exclusion of public oversight and representation. Stake a place for the Global Public on the Board of Directors of the new non-profit corporation--join the DNS.FORUM on the net by subscribing to the DNS.FORUM discussion list by sending email to: majordomo@lists.xs2.net with the message: subscribe dns.forum in the _body_ of the message. Attend the Live Panel and Public Forum at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art on Wednesday, September 23, 1998 from 7 to 10 pm at the Cooper Union School of Engineering, 51 Astor Place, New York. If you can't attend the event in person, then tune in to the NETCAST, Live from Cooper Union. Check for details at http://iciiu.net Don't pass up this historic opportunity to shape the future governance of the internet and assure the participation and representation of the Global Public. This will be the last chance to make a difference! Don't let it pass you by. .......................................................................... . ... ..... ....... DNS.FORUM is intended to inform the public on the current process of privatizing the administration and management of the Internet's DNS (Domain Name System) and to form an organization of Internet Users that will have a voice in setting policies of the new non-profit corporation proposed in the NTIA's "White Paper" that will assume the responsibilities over global domain names currently held by Network Solutions, Inc., when NSI's contract with the NSF expires on September 30, 1998. ..........................................................................
