<nettime> Design 4 ACTION Permaculture Stories with Ruth Catlow and Marc Garrett

Hi all,

Even though some may write about and or say, 'they want artistic/cultural emancipation with and for others' - this is not always the case. For them, it's more about these social contexts being items of interest, and as products to reflect a so-called 'genius', and thus initiating unwarranted, cultural ownership around a presumed status, above others.

The most dangerous thing for those who wish to hide behind hierarchical walls, not giving but taking and cherry picking an artistic/culture, and managing it as if they own it - is, if they have no connection or relationship with its rooted identities and intentions. Then, all they are doing is giving is a commentary and engaging a small elite in the process of distant canon building, which become fake diversions, away from actual real forms of grounded, cultural _expression_ being made in its own terms.

A context on this can be seen on a video Graham Burnett from Spiralseed when he interviewed us... "The latest episode of our series of Design 4 ACTION Permaculture Stories features Ruth Catlow and Marc Garrett in discussion with Graham Burnett about Furtherfield, UK's leading organisation for art shows, labs, & debates around critical questions in art and technology, since 1996."
