Re: <nettime> Guardian > Mae Ryan > Allergic to life

What a nice opportunity to do a sanity check on my attitudes towards
the US.

I've been going back for almost a decade, spending days, weeks, months
on end in various US cities, but/and Every time I left with a feeling
that _this place is toxic to me_ I'm trying now hard to avoid being
essentialist, over-generalizing, etc, but still, The more I looked
around myself the more of it I've seen: A toxic financial, political,
media system, people, kids on more than one type of drugs, against
anxiety, adhd, asthma, pain, Preservatives, colorants, artificial
flavors in processed food, fire retardants, pesticides, disinfectants,
cleaning chemicals in the carpets, in the walls, And the toxicity
of the narratives, both media mainstream, based on the never ending
violence between forces of good and evil.

And in the everyday, the delusion that despite every apparent
experience, the reality is that everything is just perfect, ideal and
exceptionally good.

The saddest moment in my life was when I realized this.

But maybe it is me who is delusional.
