In 2011 an excellent book "Synthetics" was released written by Stephen Jones and published by MIT Press on the history of computer and electronic art in Australia from 1956-1975. https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/synthetics THis is yet more proof of the falsity, or at least inadequacy, of the current approach.
