i can see your point in no need for a small independent artist to go
DNS "mainstream".

i also understand the fact that there is no real need for someone's
artwork to be curated where all the other *artists* work is (per
heiko's description of an artist - only others may call me an
artist)... in an urbanised and somewhat orderly TLD area.

would any non-amateur or renowned artists publish under .art? maybe
only craftsmen but no visual artists... billy childish and thompson's
"the stuckiest manifesto" comes to mind. live .art registrations would
certainly amount to live curation of .art TLD space.

you can be right here, i do not know much about other sources, but it
all depends on a model and resources available. in theory it should
help someone or some initiatives, e.g. it could fund th= e existing
organisations that already provide funding to artists.

i worked for MuseDoma and Getty briefly in 2001 after they got .museum
which never took off as nomenclature on .museum second level was too
complex and registrars did not offer the domain immediately, since
there was not going to be a huge demand in sales and they were not in
a position to vouch for registrant's eligibility.

i do not have much hope, but think it's worth to try.
