<nettime> castells and benkler in the essay questions for Italian maturita' (baccalaureat, national high school exam)


In the essay question for this year's high school national exam in
Italy, students in Liceo Scientico and Technical Schools could choose
to discuss a number of excerpts of thinkers and commentators on the
net society.  All under the title of "Social Network, Internet, New
Media". Well, the opening quote was from Castells (internet galaxy)
and another on from Benkler. In fact, the latter was an interview with
Benkler done by Alessandro Delfanti for the blog www.omniacommunia.org
he and I co-developed to spread the ideas contained in The Wealth of
Networks. Being a harsh opposer of Gelmini's cuts to public education
at the min of education in Mr B's decaying government, i was left
dumbstruck by this show of intellectual openness. But what the hell,
as long as it serves to develop a critical sense of informational
capitalism in italian students, it's all for the better:
