<nettime> Quartzite |
Several years ago I spent eight months offline, driving around the U.S. and taking public transport around Mexico to talk with people NOT using the Internet. I spent a day in Quartzite, and later described it in an article as the Jma el Fna for white folks. The editor changed it to Yankees (which made no sense). There's also a web log if you want to read about Quartzite and Hadj Ali, the 19th century Syrian camel wrangler who worked in this area. February 8,2004. It is an amazing place. Calling it a multitude would mean nothing to those people hanging out there. http://tingilinde.typepad.com/unconnected/2004/02/index.html Steve Cisler # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@kein.org and "info nettime-l" in the msg body # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@kein.org
