Re: <nettime> The death of the Author 2.0 |
"Digital media enable people to claim authorship like never before. But they do so in relation to a community who cares enough to appreciate their efforts." I agree. Such communities provide great motivation for sure. However, I think claiming your authorship has a different reality when you slightly move from creative producers to creative consumers (so called prosumers). Obviously we see the most production (videos on YouTube, photos on Flickr, bookmarks on Delicious etc.) in this interval. Our products are not only the material we save to these social web services but also the profiles we grow. As the author of the work our benefit is measured by views, friends, comments, votes, stars etc. But the worth of the energy put in to these services can not be measured precisely by the author, while the service providers can clearly make money out of it. burak burak-arikan.com # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@kein.org and "info nettime-l" in the msg body # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@kein.org
