Call for Work: THOUGHT THIEVE$ short film showcase

THOUGHT THIEVE$ is a short film showcase about corporate appropriation
of knowledge, culture, and creativity. It is a grassroots response to
the Micro$oft propaganda competition of the same name [see
http://www.msn.co.uk/thoughtthieves/Default.asp].

Our version of THOUGHT THIEVE$ is about big companies stealing and
profiting from the knowledge commons. Think about it: how would you feel
if you saw your cultural traditions, collective creativity,
thousands-year-old seed strains, indigenous medicinal knowledge, or even
your very genetic code being passed off as the property of some
multinational corporation? What would you do?

We want to know!

Send us your short film on corporate piracy by Friday, 16th September,
2005 for your chance to be included in an international distribution and
screening series. To be confirmed: the makers of the most creative
films, as decided by popular vote, may be invited to attend a special
premier screening of their film in Tunis, Geneva, or London.

Also, we could all win a limitless supply of cutting-edge Free Software;
tons of Public Domain, Fair Use, Creative Commons, and Copyleft content
to use as source material; non-Genetically Modified food; affordable
generic medicines ... and lots of other cool stuff TBA.


DEADLINE: Submissions are due by 16th September, 2005.

CRIMINALE$ del CONOCIMIENTO es un concurso de cine de corto metraje que trata de
la apropriaci=F3n de nuestras culturas, tradiciones, creatividad y conocimiento
tradicional por las grandes empresas.  Es una respuesta desde abajo a la
propaganda de Micro$oft del mismo nombre ("Thought Thieves," vea
http://www.msn.co.uk/thoughtthieves/Default.asp).

Nuestra versi=F3n de CRIMINALE$ del CONOCIMIENTO trata del robo empresarial del
conocimiento colectivo. Imag=EDnate: =BFC=F3mo te sentir=ED= as si vieras tus
tradiciones culturales, pr=E1cticas colectivas, variedades de semillas nativas de
miles de a=F1os de vigencia, conocimiento medicinal ind=EDgena, o a=FAn el mismo
c=F3digo gen=E9tico etiquetado como la propr= iedad 'intelectual' de alguna
empresa multinacional?  =BFQu=E9 har=EDas?

M=E1ndanos tu pel=EDcula de corto metraje sobre la apropriaci=F3n empresa= rial de
la sabidur=EDa, cultura y creatividad antes del viernes, 16 de septiembre del 2005
para poder estar incluido en una serie internacional de distribuci=F3n y estreno. 
(No confirmado:) los finalistas pueden ser invitados a asistir a estrenos
especiales de su pel=EDcula y ceremonias d= e exposici=F3n en Tunis, Ginebra,
Londres y otras localidades a ser determinadas.

Bei unserer Version von THOUGHT THIEVE$ geht es um gro=DFe Konzerne, um den von
ihnen begangenen Diebstahl und ihren Profit am Wissen des gew=F6hnlichen Volkes.
Einfach gefragt: was l=F6st es wohl f=FCr eine Rea= ktion aus, wenn die eigene
traditionelle Kultur, die gemeinsame Kreativit=E4t, die tausende von Jahre alten
Samen-Best=E4nde, das althergebrachte medizinische Wissen oder gar das eigene
genetische Muster als Eigentum eines multinationalen Konzerns angesehen wird? Was
w=FCrdet Ihr tun?

Wir wollen es wissen!

Schickt uns Euren Kurzfilm =FCber Konzern-Piraterie bis Montag, 15. August, 2005.
Damit hat Euer Film die Chance, an einer internationalen Auff=FChrungs-Tour
teilzunehmen. Steht noch nicht fest: die Macher der kreativsten Filme der
Publikumswertung werden zu einer Premierenauff=FChrung ihres Filmes in Tunis, Genf
oder London eingeladen.

La nostra versione di THOUGHT THIEVE$ parla di grandi aziende che rubano e
traggono profitto dalla conoscenza comune.  Pensate a come vi sentireste se
vedeste le vostre tradizioni culturali, la vostra creativit=E0 collettiva,
variet=E0 di semi vecchie di migliaia di anni, conoscenze mediche indigene, o
persino il vostro stesso codice genetico venire spacciato come propriet=E0 di
qualche multinazionale? Cosa fareste?

Noi vogliamo saperlo!

Mandateci il vostro corto sulla pirateria delle multinazionali entro Venerd=EC 16
Settembre 2005 e avrete la possibilit=E0 di essere inclusi i= n una serie di
distribuzioni e proiezioni internazionali.  Da confermare: i realizzatori dei film
pi=F9 originali, come deciso dal voto popolare, potrebbero essere invitati ad una
proiezione speciale del loro film a Tunisi, Ginevra o Londra.

Inoltre, tutti quanti potremmo vincere una fornitura illimitata di Software
Libero; tonnellate di pubblico dominio, uso lecito, beni comuni creativi e
contenuti sottoposti a copyleft da usare come materiale di partenza; cibo non
modificato geneticamente; medicine generiche dal prezzo accessibile... e molto
altro ancora.
