This is an open call for articles, inks, digital media or audio files on
the topic of insurgency.

The deadline for proposals is May 15, 2004, and writers/artists will
have a month to put together the final product.

The work will appear in the first issue of Galeropia, a digital magazine
produced by Why War? <http://why-war.com/>. Galeropia's vision is a
nonviolent theory and practice more potent than the prevailing reliance
on polemics and death. Our method will be a targeted expansion of the
movement's self-knowledge, aesthetics and practice. Each issue of
Galeropia will be released without prohibitive copyrights, both online
and, in a limited run, in print.[1]

We invite all interested individuals to send a proposal, thesis or
sketch to submissions@galeropia.org by May 15, 2004.

Our topic for the first issue, "insurgency," is intentionally broad. The
OED defines insurgency as "the tendency to rise in revolt," and an
insurgent as "one who rises in revolt against constituted authority; a
rebel who is recognized as a belligerent." Such a topic could cover a
range of issues from the United States to Iraq, movements from anti-war
to fair trade to race and gender theory, styles from Socratic discourse
to hip-hop spoken word.

Why War? is a nonprofit think tank promoting counterthought. Why War's
work has consistently provoked intelligent and effective activism. Our
recent campaign against electronic voting machine manufacturer Diebold
sparked an international nonviolent civil disobedience campaign that was
covered in every major newspaper and led to dramatic cutbacks in the use
of electronic voting in the United States.[2] We invite you to take part
in our newest creation: Galeropia.
