<nettime> "sorry, this is not real email" (complainers) |
Out of all the postings that I read at nettime, I have decided to reply to one dealing with complaining. Maybe this makes me a complainer, but I will explain my position on such a term in the following sentences: When someone complains it is not always because self-centered expectations have not been met. Sometimes people complain out of principle, out of basic ethical disagreement. Complaints can be constructive and fruitful if made with a positive attitude, and if aiming to follow through with actions that will actually lead to rectification. Assuming that everyone is a passive pessimist ("complainer, chef, owner") can be a problematic generalization -- even in a poetic tongue in chique playful posting. And my posting could be called a complaint... but I would rather think of it as constructive criticism. With all respect.
