<nettime> Media coverage in the USA and New York City

A small footnote to the discussion of coverage of Arab issues in US Media.
This past weekend there was a major demonstration against human rights
abuses by the Israeli government in "the Occupied Territories." The local
papers in Washington gave it major coverage. Front page news.

Extended reporting off the front page. Attendance was estimated by
newspapers in Washington at 75,000. And such estimates tend to be on the
low side. Yet there was little or nothing in the New York Times. And it is
certainly the Times that sets the tone for US media coverage. It's more
likely you heard about this demonstration if you live outside New York,
one of the media centers of this country and arguably THE media center,
than if you live in it. Unless you live it DC, it's arguable that it's
more likely you heard about it through the media if you live outside the
US.

Front page coverage was given, however, to the much smaller Pro-Israeli
rally that was held.
