Gag.

Eye roll.

Whatever.

Hey, what say we all get dressed up in skin-tight leather clothes and
virtual reality goggles and run around shooting each other with LED
guns!?! And then take smart drugs and have a chat room and a Web site!
I have some scripts from Selena Sol, and then we can freeze our heads
and make a clubhouse out of remaindered W I R E D s!

And then we'll make some big gargle-gargle ASCII foo in Outlook
Express and send it to each other on thermal faxes and talk in Dutch
about how much we love to challenge new media! Yay! We can control
each others' dishwashers with CGI scripts and watch me take a
streaming media shower in REAL TIME! Just like on Fox TV, except more
SELF-REFERENTIAL!

It's gonna be super fun! We'll all be net artists and have a global
community and have drop-down combobox site navigation and hostile
Javascript! I'm totally excited! I'm gonna get a grant from the
Austrian Bundestag and start an institute! Everyone's invited for a
sleepover!

P.S. Does anyone have a CD key for Sound Forge 5.0 Gold?! I want to
make a dance mix for the montage sequence where everyone is all making
art and popping and locking and eating cyber ice cream on ICQ and
stuff! Woohoo!

A more positive literal reading of the dot in "net.art" comes from non-OO
languages where the dot operator is used for concatenation rather than
hierarchy. After spending the last few weeks using just such a language, I
read this as "fuse 'net' to 'art'".

Of course, by the same logic I read "net-art" as "remove 'art' from 'net'",
but this may be my problem.
