<nettime> taming the wild web

article in today's LA times about the conflicts between the internet's
"hippie anarchist" architecture and the abilities of corporations to make
profits from it. some entertaining extremes/stereotypes in the article if
nothing else... only one brief mention that the frustrated marketing minds
might want to rethink their magnificent money-making marketing models,
instead of simply blaming financial failure on the internet's
decentralized "wild wild web" structure. of course, the "wild wild web"
spin is helpful for creating an environment where corporate-friendly
legislation like DMCA can exist. (for anyone who lost track, dmitry
skylarov is still being held without bail in a US prison, under the DMCA,
for possibly interfering with adobe's profits.) the article does discuss
and give some interesting history on the intentionally-decentralized
structure of the internet for purposes of cultural empowerment.
