| <nettime> THE MILITARIZED BODY & SOCIETY |
Hi folks
As some of you already know, I am currently editing a special issue of the
Sage journal _Body & Society_ on the theme of 'The Militarized Body &
Society'.
However, and although the issue is progressing well, I am having some
difficulty locating contributors who might wish to address this theme from
either or both the following perspectives:
*Feminism
*Queer Theory
Here are a few examples of the sorts of themes I am looking for:
G.I. Joe dolls; G.I. Jane and Private Benjamin movies; boys, toys, guns,
and other military play-related paraphernalia such as the camouflage
outfits for sale to toddlers in Mothercare; gay/lesbian military bodies;
why is the militarized body principally white, straight, and male? 'Don't
ask, don't tell' policy in the US armed forces; sexism etc.
If any members of nettime are interested in submitting a paper then please
let me know -- off list -- contacts below. Alternatively, if members know
of someone who might be interested but who is not a member of the nettime
list then please feel free to forward this message on to them.
best wishes
John Armitage
