India would find it difficult to back off: Pakistan

Pakistan on Friday said India would find it "difficult" to "back off" in the current confrontation between the two countries.

"By deploying troops and other assets as well as surface-to-surface missiles, the Indian government is putting itself into a corner where I think it would be difficult for them to back off," Pakistani military spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi told newsmen.

Qureshi said the deployment of Indian troops had established a "certain momentum".

He said Pakistan was continuing "maximum restraint", but the Musharraf government would ensure that the country retained the capability for reciprocal action.

He said any deployment by India in excess of what was required on the border and the Line of Control would be seen as a threat by the other side.

"From the military concentration and deployment, there seems to be a desire on the part of the Indian government to attain the capability of offensive action," he said.
