The Buddhas were blown up with dynamite.
TORONTO - A spokesman for Afghanistan's Taliban militia the
country's two colossal Buddha statues were completely destroyed
yesterday.
The news comes despite efforts by the international community to try
to save the statues.
A delegation of key Islamic clerics had just arrived in Afghanistan
in a last-ditch bid to stop the destruction.
The Buddhas were blown up with dynamite under the supervision of the
defence minister...

The Chandok's were working late Monday night when they closed up shop
and went home. But when they came back to work Tuesday morning the
statue was gone.So how do you steal a 2,000-pound Buddha?
It must have taken a lot of muscle, patience, and a truck. Police
think the man who stole the statue walked it along the sidewalk, laid
it on some blocks, and then pushed it into the get away car.
But the stone statue didn't take too long to pop up. Paramedics and
fire fighters responded late Monday night to a call that a man had
been pinned down by a large statue. A paramedic and firefighter who
helped free the man read a news story about a stolen Buddha,
recognized it and told police...
