I'm glad very to present "SITTING GONZO REFLECTING ON EXISTENCE" a ‘gif-in-gif’ performance by Gabriele Maruotti, hosted by the Widget Art Gallery from June 19 to August 31 2018. Have a nice and relaxing summer Chiara Passa About the WAG: Due to our needs that seem to be increasingly handheld, WAG was born on 2009! The Widget Art Gallery is a mini single art gallery room fitting into people's pocket. Every month, the WAG hosts a solo digital art exhibition related to its dynamic site-specific context. So the WAG works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and also as museum conserving all the past shows inside an online archive that creates a permanent collection. SITTING GONZO REFLECTING ON EXISTENCE is a site-specific ‘gif-in-gif’ performance realized for the Widget Art Gallery context. The gif-performance, lasting for the whole duration of the Gonzo’s show, is therefore nothing more than Gonzo himself – a grotesque humanoid - sitting on the WAG floor and watching TV. The sitting Gonzo is watching a gif that depicts himself reflecting on existence through a digital identity. Actually Gonzo is engaged of severe training running over a Tapis Roulant like smartphone and scrolling down the Facebook feeds in order to break the boundaries between digital and non-digital activities, so creating a surreal post-internet reality.
