J-3â. le compte à rebours a rÃellement commencÃÂ!
Les premiers artistes sont arrivÃs, les t-shirts sont en cours de fabrication, les programmes sont distribuÃs à travers la ville, le montage a commencÃ, la rÃunion avec tous les bÃnÃvoles a eu lieu jeudi dernier, nous sommes (presque) prÃtsÂ!
Le Mapping Festival, qui se dÃroulera du 2 au 12 mai, prÃsentera un riche programme dâactivitÃs intÃrieures et extÃrieures, incluant des premiÃres europÃennes et mondiales.
La programmation de cette annÃe mÃlange les nombreux genres et courants que le Mapping met de l'avant depuis neuf ans. Comme toujours, le festival cherche à prÃsenter les talents à l'avant-garde de l'innovation audiovisuelle en provenance du monde entier. Une centaine dâartistes prendront part aux 50 concerts, performances et ÃvÃnements qui auront lieu pendant les 10 jours que durera cette neuviÃme Ãdition.
Une Ãdition plus internationale et ambitieuse que jamais.

The first artists have arrived, t-shirts are being printed, programs have been distributed throughout the city, stage production has started and the volunteers meeting was held last Thursday âwe are (almost) ready!Â
This year's program mixes numerous genres et trends that the Festival has been promoting for the last 9 years. As always, the Mapping festival showcases worldwide avant-garde talents who promote innovation in the audio visual field. Hundreds of artists will take part in the 50 concerts, performances and events that will occur during the 10 days of this 9th edition.
The Mapping Festival, held from May 2nd till May 12th, will be presenting a program with outdoors and indoors activities, including worldwide and European premieres!Â

QUARTIER GENERAL DU FESTIVAL Â
Pour la premiÃre fois, le cÅur du BÃtiment dâArt Contemporain (BAC), ÂÂle CommunÂÂ, sera transformà en vÃritableÂQuartier GÃnÃral du Mapping festival, rassemblant workshops, tables rondes, installations permanentes, billetterie, bar et merchandising.
La 9Ãme Ãdition du Mapping festival sera inaugurÃeÂle jeudi 2 mai à partir de 18h, avec le vernissage des installations audiovisuelles au ÂÂCommunÂ.
Le public sera ensuite conviÃ, pendant 10 jours, Ã un voyage dÃtonnant, entre la sombre poÃsie de lâinstallation de Sougwen Chung, lâatmosphÃre hypnotique et pulsative de Nonotak, lâimmersionÂcolorÃe de Squidsoup, l'univers graphique et sonore des Ãtranges vinyles de Weng Nam Yap et la nuageuse constellation de Sembilan MatahariÂ!
Le QG du Mapping festival accueillera Ãgalement plusieurs performances audio-visuelles, dont l'Ãlectrique et fumante ÂâCombustionâ du franÃais RKO, lâimmersive et urbaine ÂâLayersâ de son compatriote Nohista, sans oublier l'absurde et cartoonesque ÂâThe 1000 People Bandâ des Gangpolâ&âMit ainsi que la trÃs attendue performance musicale de Moritz Simon Geist et du robot MR808.
Le ÂÂCommun sera un lieu de rencontres et dâÃchanges, entre le public, les professionnels, les artistes, les journalistes, et lâÃquipe du festival. Un espace chaleureux et convivial, à lâimage du festival.

ÂMAPPING FESTIVAL HEADQUARTERS
For the first time this year, the heart of the Contemporary Art Building (BAC), Le ÂÂCommunÂÂ, will be converted into our festival Headquarters, with art installations as well as workshops, roundtables, our ticket office, a merchandising stand and a bar.
The 9th edition of the Mapping festival will officially open on Thursday May 2nd, from 6pm, with the Opening of the Exhibition.
We warmly invite you, from May 2nd to 12th, to discover the dark poetry of Sougwen Chung, the hypnotic and heart-beating atmosphere of Nonotak, the colorful immersion of Squidsoup, the universe of graphics and sounds of Weng Nam Yap and the cloudy constellation of Sembilan Matahari.
Our Headquarters will also welcome âCombustionâ, a smoky and electric performance from French artist RKO, the urban and immersive performance âLayersâ from V-Atak label artist Nohista, the absurd and cartoonish âThe 1000 people bandâ from duo Gangpol & Mit, and, last but not least, the eagerly awaited performance by MoritzSimon Geist and the MR808 robot.
Le ÂÂCommunÂÂ will be a place to network, exchange, and meet professionals, artists, journalists and the Mapping team. A warm and friendly space, just like our festivalÂ!

Nous sommes fiers dâaccueillir le label anglais Shogun Audio, pour une nuit spÃciale au Zoo le mercredi 8 mai, de 23h a 5h.
Shogun Audio est l'un des rares labels de Drum&Bass d'aujourd'hui qui, dans sa grande discrÃtion, a su se rÃinventer et se dÃvelopper dans la plus pure tradition des labels fondateurs de cette musique intemporelle... On ne parle plus de genre, de style, d'Ãcole de musique...on parle tout simplement d'une expÃrience sonore et visuelle hors du commun, dÃbridÃe et libre, qui fera certainement date dans l'Histoire du Mapping Festival...

DJ Friction, founder/member of the label, a proper 90's kid from Brighton, managed to get the primal inspiration, creativeness and arrogance back into Jungle, after many years... Shogun Audio is one of the rare nowadays label that not only managed to reinvent and develop itself, in a very discrete way, but also carried on in the proper traditional ways of the founding Drum & Bass labels.

EUROPEAN SOUVENIRS
Introduit par les artistes et experts du remix espagnol de ZEMOS98, European Souvenirs est crÃÃ par un ensemble de cinq artistes europÃens, aux nationalitÃs diverses. Originaires dâEspagne, de Pologne, du Royaume-Uni, de Turquie et des Pays-Bas, leurs diffÃrents profils sont complÃmentaires. Ce collectif d'artistes mÃdias, performeurs, animateurs 3D, documentaristes, musiciens, Djs et Vjs travaille avec des matÃriaux audiovisuels issus d'importantes institutions europÃennes. Ainsi, le Eye Film Institute (NL), lâInstitut voor Beeld en Geluid (NL), la Nationaal Archief (NL), le Sarnamihuis (NL), la Fundacja Archeologia Fotografii (PL), le National Digital Archive (PL) et bien dâautres leur ont ouvert leurs archives afin de matÃrialiser ce projet.
Le public profitera d'un voyage audiovisuel au travers de la rÃinterprÃtation de l'origine et des archives institutionnelles. La performance sâefforce de capter le point de vue d'une nouvelle gÃnÃration de crÃateurs mÃdias sur les problÃmes et inquiÃtudes clÃs de l'Europe dans laquelle nous vivons.
European Souvenirs est une performance de Karol Rakowski (PL), BarÄÅ GÃrsel (TR), Farah Rahman (NL), Malaventura (ES) and Noriko Okaku (JP/UK) qui à Ãtà prÃsentÃe pour la premiÃre fois en octobre 2012 à Amsterdam, et tourne à travers l'Europe et au-dÃlà depuis. Elle a Ãtà CommandÃe par la Fondation Culturelle EuropÃenne.
Travelling is remixing
âThe archive both registers and creates the event,â wrote Jacques Derrida in Archive Fever. We choose what we keep, how we want to keep it and where to keep it, thereby creating history as we know it. With this knowledge, new archives, with new tales, can be created from existing ones. So given a contrasting context, every document can represent something completely different.
This is something similar to the departure point of a project called European Souvenirs, which brings together five media artists from five European countries, as they scoured through leading audiovisual archives all over the continent. The projectâs curators are the âremix expertsâ of the Spanish Zemos98, a collective comprised of VJs, DJâs, animators, performers, musicians and filmmakers, all focusing on the reinterpretation of existing material. In the context of this project, they opted for both musicians and visual artists, so that the remixing could concentrate on both sound and vision.
The overall impression is one that alternates between melancholy and energy, with the odd bit of eroticism thrown in for good measure. But thanks, in part, to its high quality and mostly very danceable electronic music and excellent sound bites, itâs hardly ever boring. Here and there the chaotic flow is punctuated by silence, while an individual anecdote is related. All in all, itâs a sensory, associative trip through collective memories in which you really do feel as though itâs all being created on the spot.
The chaotic reiteration that this project promises to be, must include the inherent complexity of an abstract concept like European identity, which, from this production, will certainly not come across as stable. Borders are constantly shifting and changing, memories are always reinventing themselves and unity is taking refuge in being different, as if acknowledging the fact that no two stories are the same. Remixing, as the mission statement of the project stresses, is more than just the artistic heritage of an avant-garde concept of collage. Itâs also more than the DJsâ sampling culture from the 1980s. Remixing is part of our culture and it influences the cross-fertilisation of areas such as education, communication, culture and politics. Borders are there to be visually crossed.

AinsiÂEvoluciÃÂpeut continuer son propre processus de transformation...
Onionlab presentsÂEvoluciÃ, a piece that revolves around the graphic and sound abstraction of the concept it is named after: evolution. It is construed as transformation, construction and alteration of reality through time; evolution as a discontinuous creation process as well.
Created with 3D projection mapping techniques, this time,ÂEvoluciÃÂwill be projected onto the faÃade of the Geneva Art and History Museum, though the piece takes the evolution concept even further: It was conceived as an open transformation process so that it can also be adapted to different faÃades and projection surfaces, and so thatÂEvoluciÃÂcan continue its transformation process.
