The School of Arts, Media and Engineering (AME, ame.asu.edu) in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Interactive Media at the associate/assistant professor level beginning fall 2013.

In addition to the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, the Herberger Institute comprises The Design School; the schools of Art; Dance; Music; Theatre and Film; as well as the ASU Art Museum. The institute is part of a university community comprising four differentiated campuses, each positively impacting the economic, social, cultural and environmental health of the communities it serves.

The School of Arts, Media and Engineering at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is a nationally leading school for transdisciplinary research and education in interactive media. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in the design and theoretical grounding of interactive media in the school and will lead student training in this area. The appointee's efforts will merge with initiatives of the school and of other faculty for the achievement of significant advancements in interactive media. Teaching assignments will relate to the appointee's interests and research.

The School of Arts, Media and Engineering offers a PhD in Media Arts and Sciences as well as established digital media concentrations in disciplines including: Visual Art, Music, Dance, Theatre and Film, Design, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science and Informatics. The school recently launched a new undergraduate degree in Digital Culture with nine different concentrations to educate 21st century students. Through its progressive curriculum, it encourages students to integrate both creative and technical approaches to build tangible skills in digital media. The schoolâs faculty work collaboratively with graduate students in the creation of innovative experiential media systems in areas such as health, education and creative art. The School of Arts, Media and Engineering, a strategic initiative of ASU, has state-of-the art technological facilities and diverse streams of external support.

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree in Media, Interactive Arts, Computer Science or closely related field; significant research record in interactive systems within industry and/or media and performing arts and a strong media theory background commensurate with the level of the appointment; strong external income and teaching record (for senior level appointments).

Desired Qualifications

Extensive experience in interactive media design and/or development; record of interdisciplinary and collaborative experience in research and creation spanning fields in media, arts and engineering; funded research in interactive media and/or related fields.
