<nettime-ann> Japan Media Arts Festival, HMKV at the Dortmunder U, until 2 Oct 2011 |
.
Dear Nettime-Ann, organised by the Japanese Agency
for Cultural Affairs and produced by Hartware MedienKunstVerein
(HMKV), the Japan Media Arts Festival Dortmund 2011 presents
prominent representatives of Japanese art, entertainment, manga,
animation and music.
The Japan Media Arts Festival is taking place from 10 September
to 2 October 2011 at Dortmunder U. After Beijing, Shanghai,
Singapore, Vienna and Istanbul, 2011 Dortmund (Germany) is the
location of the sixth Japan Media Arts Festival (JMAF) overseas
exhibition. Interactive installations, games,
photography, manga, animated films and music can be experienced in
a varied exhibition for which the award winners of the last
festivals in Tokyo were selected.
The live event on the opening night of the JMAF at VIEW, the
club in Dortmunder U, turned out to be a cutting-edge event of
Japanese pop culture. On 9 September the popular Japanese
pop star and Vocaloid Hatsune Miku performed together with the
girl group Momoiro Clover Z for the first time in Germany. In
addition, one of the founders of Japanese VJing, Naohiro Ukawa, created an impressive VJ- and DJ-live-performance to round up
an exciting night.
Furthermore, a special film programme features current and
classic anime films on the big screen. As special highlight we are
looking forward to the films of Masaaki Yuasa. We will present
three of his main works: Kaiba, Mind Game and the new series The
Tatami Galaxy. On 11 September the director himself talked about his work during a film talk. Moreover, the exhibition
Proto Anime Cut on the 3rd floor of the Dortmunder U is dedicated to the theme of anime
and makes up, together with the Japan Media Arts Festival Dortmund
2011, this year's Japan focus of Hartware MedienKunstVerein.
The festival is organised by HMKV and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan, within the context of the 150-year friendship between Germany and Japan, and under the patronage of the Japanese Consulate General, Düsseldorf. The festival is taking place in cooperation with the Japanisches Kulturinstitut and the Goethe-Institut Japan.
