This is the first purely acoustic composition by Eliane Radigue, the composer who has pioneered pure electronic sound for over thirty years. Delicate, yet dense and highly diffuse sonorities are seamlessly interwoven in a three-part structure, mirroring the geography of the cello. The hidden, untamed ur-sonority of the cello is revealed in all its sonic complexity and instability. The Tibetan title refers to the motion of all life toward unity. Qualities of intense focus, concentration and spirituality, landmarks in all of Radigue's work, are transferred from the composer's electronic studio to the concert stage. The piece received its world premiere in December 2005 in New York. ALVIN LUCIER: Instruments and Pure Waves Significant works by the great American experimentalist Alvin Lucier. The physics of sound in space are explored with miraculous vividness. Acoustical beating patterns spin audibly in the listening space and create charged pressure zones redefining the physical environment. The concert can be regarded as a performative articulation of miniature sound installations in sequence.
